While I fell in love the whole world was caving in but it was all moonlit fresh spring and kindling I don't really wanna die I just wanna hear you say my name The fault line split up raining ash and panicked doves apocalyptic shit black smoke and cars crashing the sound of barking dogs disappeared when you pulled me close to you and said "I still want to live and I want that life with you" Naive Melody your face comes with a view I hardly even know you how do I feel more at home than at home now and forever and ever

On 031517 I encountered my vision of heaven at Sea-Tac pick up zone 3 float down the camber, fly like a blue heron we tossed a coin to see where we could go stare and talk and kiss about everything A night so sweet it sets you free instantly Fly like a blue heron, fly like a blue heron, fly like a blue heron, fly like a blue heron, fly like a blue heron, fly like a blue heron, fly like a blue heron to me On 031517 a cherry blossom bud tried pretending not to see what happened to me A love so sweet it set me free instantly Fly like a blue heron, fly like a blue heron, fly like a blue heron, fly like a blue heron, fly like a blue heron, fly like a blue heron, fly like a blue heron with me

Seven days of pure bliss lingering sweetness persists on my taste buds and lips I was camouflaged as king of spring I had everything that I that I needed Except then came True Love My Garden is dug For you Green necklace, blue poncho torrential downpour it was the shower of my life Feathers fall, all in all the glitter war to end them all is Lemon Verbena I don't waste time like I used to waste time do I do I? Since I watched you turn left that night On the way to the airport terminal my heart you stole You know all the words to the song in my heart?

Wait around like a stone on the ground like icicles for the sun to come around and melt these days away I can hardly wait for it at all Our southwest rendezvous is getting me through all of these nights without you I'm sleepin' upright in the passenger seat on my way to Arizona Where the coyotes will sing for us while we kiss in the orange glow of the sun Our kind of fun yeah (oooo) Like two morning doves Like two cicadas Like two new born moths (ooh-ooh) Like two little oranges Like two lizards on a rock (ahhh-ahhh) Runnin' from the clock And the coyotes still sing for us where we kissed in the orange glow of the sun It just dawned on me Come back home with me We could live safely from the nasty snake that time can be We'll be the birds of paradise Like kites lost, we'll float on and on and on and on, like two do like two do like two do

June Moon 02:47
Backstroke with my eyes closed Backstroke, my eyes closed Cool water makes my hair float Weightlessly The Virginia Heat can't find a space between you and me This is how life should be Under the June Moon Under the June Moon Poolside with our eyes wide Swan dive, I jump right in Peach juice drippin', drippin' all over my body, there's no gravity and there's no neighbors nearby just Us and the frogs and fireflies I wanna stay, I wanna stay Under the June Moon Under the June Moon Under the June Moon Under the June Moon I should have stayed, I should have stayed

Will you, will you, will you? Let me will it into being let me the thing you crave come on let me be your full moon let me bring out the wolf in you drive other ships out of the sea til there's nothing left but me and you let me love you like a tidal wave Will you let me destroy everything? Oh it feels so good to be engulfed by you Hotel is a crowded place Bartender brings us daiquiris Feels so hot under all of these red lights, gasoline We're on our own plane of reality And it feels so good to be engulfed by you Wrapped tight, caught in a daze Goodbye leather jacket, won't be the same Your eyes light up my soul and its last call come with me Hold on tight It is pure joy in the palm of my hand and I won't let go I'll hold on til my arms bend back and breath it in until I feel my lungs collapse and when the cops put me in plastic wrap I won't stop Living in whatever little universe Where it feels like the world bends it's rules for us Oh it feels like the world bends its rules for us non stop Yeah it feels so good to be engulfed by you

Dream Week 04:39
Floating, flying, skydiving, half moon rising the waves in the shape of a heart In a snow globe world we flirt and twirl like gold leaves the breeze in the shape of a heart and ear to ear our smiles appear like hot lightning the universe plays it's part Am I dreamin', dreamin', dreamin'? If I'm dreamin' don't dreams end? Does this one have to? It's golden hour soft mist out of focus the lens is on you and I at the water front where the train screams our names the ducks form the shape of a heart I'm not dreamin' dreamin' dreamin' I'm not dreamin' it's real, I love you (oooooohhhhhh)

Twenty four red balloons, coming home to Twenty seven years old Infinity unfolds like the cold green rivers sings outside this door Where the fish and frogs find food Underneath the moon While the rain falls on the roof Like a wiggling loose tooth and the bats wings late at night No one will ask what they sing for Twenty seven years ago Stardust told Two lizards on a rock Starin' off No one will ask what they sing for

about

Music doesn’t just hit your ears, shake on it, done deal. Your senses promptly form a pattern, a mysterious sorcery dissolving into melody. One note, even, can evoke a childhood memory of earthy late spring chamomile wisps. A harmony can knock you off balance so profoundly, arousing that deep belly drop from sheer unexpected pleasure. Music is the stuff that brings all the seemingly minuscule flashes of life into focus. The surface, good-on-paper moments spring into motion, merging past and future, dropping you sweetly into the present.

Jordan W. Campbell forged a record that alchemizes those senses into an experience, taking you on a personal journey, relatable not through any shared involvement, but more by the proximity to the metaphors and sounds used to express true human emotion. And what is arguably the most intense human experience? Falling in love. Nothing eclipses that feeling of newness. Of intrigue. Of mutual admiration. Campbell created Naïve Melody Tattoo to make some sort of sense out of the intense consciousness of love, devotion, and profound joy.

But wait, we’re getting carried away. Let’s take a breath and start with the basics.

Campbell hails from Phoenix, Arizona, finding his way to Seattle in 2013 after following friends to the city of grunge. Recording projects came and went, bands started, stopped. But the feeling of writing music, staying up late tweaking, collaborating, and finding that sweet spot of a good simple song always found a way in. Landing in Edmonds, Washington, after the ‘burbs proved cheaper than the city, he found a house with pals and set up shop. Recording bits and bobs here and there, he set free a beautiful ambient record titled Wabi Sabi Poems in March of 2022.

Fast forward to September 29th, 2023, Naïve Melody Tattoo has been a long time coming. The arc of this story spans just four months, but the ripples have created a life, a family, and eternal, undeniable kismet. As Campbell explains, this record is “a bunch of vignettes about the crucial moments of meeting, falling in love, and moving in with my wife between March and July of 2017.”

Don’t be fooled, however. While Campbell’s affinity for minimalism still burns hot, this record cracks open the diffused tease into a full band soirée. It spans sweet, sparse ballads, roomy Yorke-esque vocals, layered string arrangements, and downright jangly guitars, reminiscent of 90’s country twang.

The opening credits, or first track on the album, deciphers the reflex of being utterly unaffected by anything happening in the news, world, your own backyard. Time has stopped simply from being so deeply entwined in fresh love. I hope we’ve all been there - it’s a marvelous feeling. The story continues to find Campbell meeting his now-wife Michele for the first time, the blissful week that followed, and a longing for what’s next. Keep listening to catch “Southwest Rendezvous”, an ode to those in-between times of a new relationship. In “June Moon”, feel the flickering twinkle of light on water in deep Virginia, shifting love into high gear. “Dream Week” pinpoints the exact moment of realization: you love someone with absolution. A bona fide lightning strike.

The album that became Naïve Melody Tattoo was recorded between 2020 and 2023 at Sage Arts, with Jordan Cunningham at the helm, and a concerted push was made this past winter to track the majority of the songs. While Campbell is the voice and guitar on the record, he decided to enlist pal David Bazan (Pedro The Lion) to play drums, a choice very crucial to the wizardry of the final product. It’s dynamite to have a friend, who, when asked “Know any drummers?” answers with, “Yeah, me.” Bazan nails it, and their kinship can be felt in those beats.

As Campbell explains, “Falling in love with Michele was the easiest thing I’ve ever done, and I’m a firm believer that many if not all the things you do should be fun, and somewhat easy. I let the record sessions be like falling in love. No real clue what would happen next, but just chasing the butterflies.” Some songs were done quickly, others were built more deliberately, with morning coffee going cold, and patience.

This record is best listened to in headphones, to not miss details like the sample of Campbell’s mom’s car seat belt, or the sound of his daughter on the Edmonds beach where Jordan and Michele’s love first bloomed, the low tide led in by the aching pull of the moon. A pure expression of how surprising, delightful and effervescent love truly is.
